MasonboroIsland.org is an independent field guide run by Mozy Outdoors. This page explains what the site collects, why, and which outside services are involved. If anything here is unclear, email hello@masonboroisland.org.
Visit counts (Google Analytics)
We use Google Analytics to understand how people use the site: which pages get read, roughly where visitors are from (city or region, not your address), what kind of device and browser you're on, and how you found us. It also counts email signups. We use this to decide what to write next and to show local sponsors how many people the site reaches, as totals, never as a list of who visited.
Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and receives your IP address to do this. We don't send it your name or email address. Google's own explanation is at How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
To opt out, you can block cookies in your browser, use a tracking blocker, or install Google's Analytics opt-out add-on. The site works the same either way.
The email list
If you sign up, we receive your email address, the page you signed up on, and anything else you choose to send (like the trips you're interested in, or a note). The form is delivered to our inbox through a service called Web3Forms.
We use your email only to send island news, conditions alerts and trip updates you asked for. We don't sell or rent it, and we don't share it with sponsors. Want off the list? Reply to any email or write to hello@masonboroisland.org and we'll remove you.
Live tides, weather and sky data
The conditions board, Trip Planner and Tonight's Sky load live data straight from public sources while you're on the page. That means your browser contacts these services directly, and like any website, they can see your IP address:
- NOAA Tides & Currents (tide predictions and sea level)
- National Weather Service, api.weather.gov (alerts)
- Open-Meteo (forecasts)
- The Space Devs, Launch Library (rocket launch times)
We don't send them anything about you. Your trip plans stay in your browser. A shared planner link carries only the date, trip type, launch point and boat type you picked.
Fonts and hosting
Fonts and icons load from Google Fonts. The site is hosted on Netlify, which keeps standard server logs (like IP address and the pages requested) to run and protect the site.
What we don't do
- No ad networks or retargeting pixels.
- No selling or renting of personal information.
- No accounts, logins or payment details.
- Nothing aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If we add something new, like a sponsor's link tracking or a paid guide, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
